New York Giants helmet = pain and suffering except 4 glorious weeks in early 2008

I think with that loss yesterday, the Superbowl honeymoon period is now officially over. I never really got furious at any point last season. I was annoyed, very annoyed even, after both the regular season and playoff losses to the Eagles last year. However, I, as much as this Giant's nut ever can, took the season in stride. However, with yesterday's sickening and devastating loss, we can now start lambasting the horror show that is the 2009 Giants. But you guys have no doubt already read professional quality articles grading the team's performance across several dimensions such as coaching, special teams and defense. I am not as funny as The Ghost of Devo or Mahatma so I won't bore you with failed attempts at humor either. What I can offer, is a look back at the 5 worst losses that were suffered in the regular season in the White Boy Error of Giants fandom. So without further adieu....

Honorable mention

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants,  October 2001-What an amazing night!! The Yankees were destroying the 110 plus win Mariners in the decisive game 5 of the ALCS. The Giants were up 9-0 at halftime against the hated Eagles. Life was good right? Well I don't remember this game crystal clear except that Philly scored 10 points in the 2nd half including a McNabb TD late in the 4th icing the game for Philly. This began a horrendous 4 year reign by the Eagles atop the East. Thank goodness that's over.

5) Tennessee Titans at New York Giants, October 2002- I don't remember every detail of this game. I know it was during the season where Kerry Collins lead the best show on field turf in the month of December culminating in a dramatic "kick off" win at home vs the McNabbless Iggles.  However, this loss was quite painful. Steve Mcnair (G-d bless his soul), lead his Titans, down 11 at one point in the 4th quarter, on a game tying td and 2 point conversion drive as regulation expired. Tennessee won the game on a Joe "Thespian" Nedney (Mahatma and Yinzer know why I"m calling him that) field goal in OT leaving this fan who came in from Boston just to attend this game sick to his stomach.

4) San Diego Chargers at New York Giants, November 2009- This loss reminds me a lot of the honorable mention Eagles loss.It was 4 days removed from the glorious 5th title in the last 15 years for the Yankees. I had just had a great time at my dad's birthday dinner. Life was good, the Giants even had a 3 point lead and 1st and goal at the 4 with 3:15 to go. The game was over I thought. I am very careful about assuming a game is in the bag with this team but I truly assumed we had won. Unfortunately, so did the Giants. Tom ran a horrendously conservative game plan seemingly content to only be up 6 with over 2 minutes for Phillip Rivers to take his team down the field. The defense also forgot it had only a 1 possession lead as it played a prevent style defense usually reserved for teams with a 2 possession cushion in the closing minutes.  It was a horribly coached game on both sides of the ball. A game in which Jacobs inexplicably only touched the ball 11 times yet amassed, on average, 6 yards on each of these carries. It was a game in which Eli was brilliant but yet wasn't trusted by his coaching staff to end the game by himself. Truly a disaster in the sports sense of the word.

3) New York Giants at Tennessee Titans, November 2006- This was the worst in game loss given how impossible losing this game was. The Giants had the ball up 21 in the 4th quarter. You can probably, no definitely, count on your hand how many times a team has lost a game when in this favorable situation. It began to unfold when Eli threw a ridiculous interception over the arms of the gigantic #349320951850429058; I guess you know him better as #17 on the Giants not his aforementioned prison #. Sorry. Anyway,  Although Vinsanity lead 2 scoring drives to cut the lead to 21-14, the game still was about to end... twice! First, New York stopped the Titans on 4th down in the closing minutes when the immortal Frank Walker put on an insanely dumb late hit giving Vince and company knew life. Then, on 4th and 10, Vince tries to scramble away from the blitzing Mathias Kiwinuka but to no avail...YES! We held on whfeww... but wait, whats this???? HE LET HIM GO, MOTHER F&*(((, HE LET  HIM GO. Sorry thats the best Tom Coughlin pre 2k7 imitation I can do on the computer. So you probably remember the rest. Tennessee tied the game and won it in the last minute thanks in large part to an Eli pick once the Titans had tied the game. Ugh

2) Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants, October 2003-In what was, by far, the worst season in the White Boy Error, New York had a chance to at least to beat the hated Eagles at home. It looked like this would happen. New York had a 4 point lead with about 90 seconds to go when a punt by (not sure who?) was caught by Westbrook and returned to the house for a touchdown. I still remember Kerry's incomplete pass on 4th and 6 or so from the Giant's 30 to end the game. I kept thinking, I can't believe this happened. How could you allow a return touchdown when this is the only way you could possibly lose!!? But the Giants have done this many times in th White Boy Error.. snatch defeat away from a sure victory.

1) Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants, September 2003- several weeks before the aforementioned shit show, the worst loss ever in the White Boy Error occurred. I remember a interception return touchdown by a member of the big blue secondary, Will Allen maybe? New York, on the strength of a Matt Bryant field goal took the lead on Dallas with about 15 seconds left on "Monday Night Football". New York was about to go 2-0 after winning its first two home games of the season. Then weird shit started happening. Bryant, who just kicked the apparent game winner, somehow kicked one out of bounds on the kickoff giving Quincy Carter a fighting chance. Then, He threw about a 25 yard sideline pass setting up Dallas with a 50 yard or so field goal which of course it made. Then, in OT it won on another field goal. New York went on to lose its final 7 home games going a pathetic 4-12. But hey, we traded up to get the third best quarterback in the 2004 draft and only gave up 2 additional picks for him so its all good.  Punch me in the face
