Fixing Free Agency

Am I the only one sick and tired of waiting for Bryce Harper and Manny Machado?

We are now one month away from the start of Spring Training and the two biggest names in free agency still don’t have a team. I don’t know about the rest of the fans out there, but I think this is a little ridiculous.

No doubt, Harper and Machado are waiting til they get the contract they think they deserve; I would like to point out that at this point they probably won’t be getting that contract.

So I’d like to propose a new rule that will make free agency way better for the fans. I say we set a deadline for when you must sign with a team. Everyone loves trade deadline day; it’s my favorite day of the season. It’s pretty much an entire day of constant news about how teams are trying to make a World Series push or admitting defeat and trying to plan for the future. Tweet after tweet from all the insiders, it couldn’t be more fun.

The MLB and really all sports should impose a deadline on free agents. Just imagine another day where you get to see where all the big names land; and you get to feel all the joy and outrage at once. Feeling happy and angry is without a doubt one of the best feelings in sports. As a fan, it is something you can’t explain and something non-sports people will never understand.

Now if you give me a date where I can see that yet again not a single big name signed with either the Mets or the Red Sox, I would be fine with it. It’s a way to get all my feelings out at once. But if you wake up as a White Sox fan and get that one tweet that could read, “Manny Machado finally signs with the Chicago White Sox” what a great feeling that would be.

All this waiting is going to feel so incredible boring when Machado signs with the lesser Chicago team and Bryce Harper end up just staying with the Nationals. One of the biggest free agency seasons in recent memory and it ends like that. I have a feeling it is going to be very, very disappointing.

Betting mastermind. Didn't have the height or talent for sports but I can talk and pick them like a champ.
