NBA Hit or Miss February 22nd, 2019

2-1 on my picks last night, I’m hotter than a sting operation in Florida.

San Antonio Spurs @ Toronto Raptors

Spread: Raptors -7.5

O/U: 226.0

The two teams behind the biggest trade from the offseason face off in their first game back from the all-star break. Although the Raptors are clearly the better team and should be able to win this game, I think the Spurs are going to cover the spread. They are the 3rd best 3 point shooting team in the NBA, at 47.8%, and are the best free throw shooting team with 82.3%. Everyone knows the Spurs are the most well coached team in the league thanks to Popovich. The Spurs are not going to beat themselves, so the Raptors will need to take advantage of every mistake. Spurs only turn the ball over 12.2 times per game (2nd). Both teams are among the best offensives in the league: the Raptors are the 5th best offensive team in the NBA and the Spurs are the 6th. This game is primed to hit the over. I am taking the Spurs to cover but the Raptors still win at home.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Spurs +7.5

O/U: Over 226.0

Winner: Raptors

Denver Nuggets @ Dallas Mavericks

Spread: Nuggets -3.5

O/U: 224.0

The Nuggets have had a fantastic season thus far and should continue their success against the Mavs tonight. The Mavs have traded away some really good pieces so they are clearly trying to get in better draft position. The Nuggets are ranked 2nd in the NBA in offensive rebounds per game at 12.1. With Deandre Jordan out of Dallas, the Nuggets are going to dominate the offensive boards and have a plethora of second chance points. The Nuggets are a very unselfish team and like to keep the ball moving. They don’t mind making the extra pass to get their teammates in the game. They rank 2nd in assist per game and assists on made field goals on the season. The Mavs just don’t have the talent right now to keep up with the Nuggets; this should be an easy double digit win.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Nuggets -3.5

O/U: Under 224.0

Winner: Nuggets

Utah Jazz @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Spread: Thunder -4.5

O/U: 226.5

This is a game where I think the Jazz are just completely overmatched. The Thunder should be able to run all over Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz. Russell Westbrook is having another fantastic season, averaging a triple double. While Paul George is making a real case to be MVP of the league. Averaging 28.7 pts, 8.0 reb and 2.3 stl per game, PG has been the best 2 way player in the league all season. The Thunder are the best offensive rebounding team in the NBA. Expect a good battle between Rudy Gobert and Steven Adams in the post. For a team that loves to get on the run, the Thunder cause the most steals per game. If Oklahoma can maintain high pace and force the Jazz into mistakes, then this should be an easy cover.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Thunder -4.5

O/U: Under 226.5

Winner: Thunder
