NBA Hit or Miss February 25th, 2019

I’m on a HEATER. 2-1 Friday night and hit my 3 team college basketball parlay on Sunday.

Phoenix Suns @ Miami Heat

Spread: Heat -8.5

O/U: 215.5

The Suns are currently in the middle of a franchise worst 17 game losing streak, and there seems to be no end in sight. The Suns are a horrendous 25-34 against the spread this season and 12-18 against the spread on the road. Meanwhile Miami just got their All-Star point guard Goran Dragic back from injury. With a true point guard running the offense instead of Justise Winslow, the Heat should play much better. Miami comes into the game with a huge advantage in rebounding: the Heat are ranked 9th in the league at 46.3 rebounds per game, while the Suns average a league worst 40.1 per game. Phoenix is also one of the worst defensive teams in the league, posting a defensive rating of only 114.4 (29th); the Heat are much better on defense with a rating of 107.6 (6th). I am taking the Miami Heat to be able to cover and win this game at home.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Heat -8.5

O/U: Under 215.5

Winner: Heat

Golden State Warriors @ Charlotte Hornets

Spread: Warriors -7.0

O/U: 234.0

The Golden State Warriors are coming off a tough loss against the Houston Rockets (without James Harden), but they very rarely lose back to back games. As we know by now, the Warriors are the best shooting team in the NBA. Golden State shoots a full 4 percentage points higher than the Hornets. Facing a Warriors offense that averages the most passes and assists per game, the Hornets have to rely on a below average defense, ranked 21st in the league with a 111.7 defensive rating. The Hornets won’t be able to keep up with all the switching and movement of the Warriors offense. Warriors win and cover on the road.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Warriors -7.0

O/U: Under 234.0

Winner: Warriors

Los Angeles Lakers @ Memphis Grizzlies

Spread: Lakers -4.5

O/U: 221.5

You would never know it, but the Lakers are a top 10 shooting team in the NBA. They have shot 47.4% (7th), while the Grizzlies have only been shooting 44.9% (24th) this season. Worse for the Grizzlies, their shooting averages have only decreased since the trade of Marc Gasol. Thanks to Tyson chandler, the Lakers have also been a top 5 rebounding team in the league with 46.9 (5th). Memphis is one of the worst rebounding teams with only 40.5 (29th). After a bad loss against the Pelicans (without Anthony Davis), LeBron has once again called out his teammates. I expect James to rally his team and win enough games to make the playoffs. That should start tonight against Memphis: the Lakers will win and cover.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Lakers -4.5

O/U: 221.5

Winner: Lakers
