NBA Hit or Miss March 25th, 2019

After a full weekend of betting NCAA basketball, we turn our focus back to the NBA.

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Memphis Grizzlies

Spread: Thunder -6.0

O/U: 218.0

The Thunder are trying to string together consecutive wins and get back on track. They are still the 2nd best rebounding team in the league in terms of total rebounds per game (48.1) and the best in terms of offensive rebounds per game (12.4). The Grizzlies, by the numbers, are the worst rebounding team in the NBA. Memphis averages 41.3 total rebounds per game (29th) and 8.5 offensive rebounds per game (30th). If you control the glass, you control the entire game. Especially on offense, getting rebounds takes away possessions from the opposing team and gives your team second chances. Oklahoma also leads the league in steals per game, and against a team like the Grizzlies who have the slowest pace of play, that means more possessions for the Thunder. The Thunder will be able to take advantage of the lack of size in Memphis and will be able to win this game on the road and cover the spread.

MY PICKS

Spread: Thunder -6.0

O/U: Under 218.0

Winner: Thunder

Philadelphia 76ers @ Orlando Magic

Spread: 76ers -2.0

O/U: 219.0

Coming off a tough loss against the Atlanta Hawks, the Sixers will look to get back on track against the Magic. This should be an easy win for Philly given all their talent. I expect them to cover this quite easily on the road.  The Sixers are the third best total rebounding team with 47.6 per game. Orlando doesn’t have anyone to battle Joel Embiid down low, so Philly should dominate points in the paint as well. Philly also averages 27 assists per game (4th), led by Ben Simmons 7.8 per game. The Sixers move the ball around and always make the extra pass to the open man. I don't see why the spread is so small. The Sixers have the superior team and have the overall better talent at every position. Take the Sixers with confidence.

MY PICKS

Spread: 76ers -2.0

O/U: Over 219.0

Winner: 76ers

Phoenix Suns @ Utah Jazz

Spread: Jazz -15.0

O/U: 218.0

This is a classic case of the spread just being way to big for me to bet against. 15 points is too much for any team that's not the Knicks. The Suns do some things well. For example, they average the second most steals per game at 9.0. If Phoenix can force turnovers against the Jazz, then they can keep this game within single digits and cover this spread. Utah is also one of the worst teams in the league from the free throw line. They shoot 73.4% from the charity stripe, which limits mounting a big lead. Devin Booker should have a big game tonight; he has had 7 straight games of at least 25 points and I think he is going to score 35 tonight and keep the Suns close. I don't have the confidence to pick them to win, but definitely to cover this huge spread.

Betting mastermind. Didn't have the height or talent for sports but I can talk and pick them like a champ.
