NBA Hit or Miss March 8th, 2019

0-2-1... so that’s what it feels like being traded to the Bills.

Philadelphia 76ers @ Houston Rockets

Spread: Rockets -7.5

O/U: 232.0

The 76ers will travel to Houston and take on the Rockets in a matchup between two of the leagues heavy hitters. The Sixers will once again be playing without all-star center Joel Embiid, but I don’t see that being an issue tonight. The Rockets kill you with three point shooting and the Sixers have the talent to keep pace with them. Philly actually shoots a better percentage from behind the arc, 36.2% (7th), than the Rockets, 35% (19th). Philly enjoys a big advantage on the glass, averaging 47.0 rebounds per game (4th) or 5.5 more than the Rockets. Although I don’t think Ben Simmons and company will be able to win in Houston, I do believe they will cover the spread and give the Rockets a scare. Take the Sixers to cover.

MY PICKS:

Spread: 76ers +7.5

O/U: Over 232.0

Winner: Rockets

Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls

Spread: Pistons -4.0

O/U: 219.0

I don’t know what is going on with the Bulls lately. It’s like they don’t even want Zion Williamson. Chicago has gone 6-4 in their last 10 games. Even so, the Pistons are even hotter as of late. Detroit is surging to a higher playoff spot in the East, going 8-2 in their last 10 games. Blake Griffin is having an amazing season, averaging 25 pts, 8 rbs, and 5.5 ast per game. And Detroit is currently top 10 in made three point field goals per game at 12.0 (8th). The Bulls are not a good three point shooting team, only making 9.5 (29th) of them per game. The Pistons are top 10 in offensive rebounds per game, behind Griffin and Andre Drummond, averaging 11.2 (7th) per game or almost a full three more than the Bulls at 8.4 (29th). Although the game is in Chicago, I don’t see the Bulls keeping it close. Detroit should be able to win and cover pretty easily.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Pistons -4.0

O/U: Under 219.0

Winner: Pistons

Utah Jazz @ Memphis Grizzlies

Spread: Jazz -4.5

O/U: 209.0

The Jazz are one of those under the radar teams that always ends up in the thick of things come playoff season. Utah is a top 10 rebounding team, averaging 45.9 (10th) behind DPOY candidate Rudy Gobert. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies only grab 40.9 per game. Since the departure of Marc Gasol, Memphis’s numbers have only gone down. The Jazz are also top 10 in made three point field goals per game at 11.8 (9th); the Grizzlies are dead last with 9.3 (30th). I am honestly very surprised the spread is this close. Behind the scoring of Donovan Mitchell, the Jazz should win and cover this game very easily.

MY PICKS:

Spread: Jazz -4.5

O/U: Under

Winner: Jazz
