Let’s keep this MLB hot streak going.
Colorado Rockies @ Boston Red Sox
Starting Pitching: Kyle Freeland vs Chris Sale
I have been saying it for weeks now and it’s not becoming any less true. The Red Sox are back and are above .500 for the first time this season. Tonight, ace left hander Chris Sale will be pitching for Boston and he is looking more like the man we saw last season. In his last 4 starts he has only allowed 5 total earned runs while striking out 41 batters. That is the stone cold killer we Sox fans love to see on the mound. Boston’s offense has been clicking as well, with Rafael Devers recording 31 hits and 18 RBIs in his last 20 games. The team scored at least 9 runs in all three games played in their last series against Seattle. The Rockies surprisingly haven’t been anything to write home about so far, as they have one of the worst team ERAs in the league at 5.06 (27th), and tonight's starter Kyle Freeland has an ERA of 5.84 of his own. It is going to be a long night for Colorado. Take the Red Sox moneyline and even the -1.5 run spread.
O/U: Over 8.5
Winners: Red Sox -260
Tampa Bay Rays vs Miami Marlins
Starting Pitching: Charlie Morton vs Caleb Smith
Pitcher Caleb Smith has been the only bright spot all season for the Marlins, holding a 2.11 ERA and a .89 WHIP. While I think he is going to have another good showing tonight at home, I don’t think the Marlins will pull off the win. The Rays have Charlie Morton on the mound who is having himself a great season with a 2.64 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 44.1 innings. Tampa Bay has the better offense, and that is why they will win this game in a pitchers duel. Miami is deadlast in runs per game (2.7), OBP (.283), SLG (.310), and OPS (.5.93). The Rays meanwhile have the best team ERA in the league at 2.96, so this is a matchup of a team that can’t score runs against a team that doesn’t allow them. Easy pick, take the Rays.
O/U: Under 6.5
Winners: Rays -145
San Diego Padres vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Starting Pitching: Chris Paddock vs Clayton Kershaw
This is just flat out one of those pitching matchups you don’t want to miss as a baseball fan. Rookie Chris Paddock has unbelievable this season, posting a 1.55 ERA and a WHIP of .69 (Nice). Tonight he goes head to head with long time great Clayton Kershake, who owns a .98 WHIP and a 5:1 K:BB ratio. Ultimately, I believe these two pitchers will cancel each other out tonight and the game will come down to the offenses. The Dodgers have the better offense this season while the Padres have been just okay to say the least. Los Angeles is 3rd in OBP (.345), 5th in SLG (.455) and 4th in homeruns hit (68). I believe the Dodgers will end up winning the game in a low scoring affair that even goes extra innings.
O/U: Under 7.0
Winners: Dodgers -160
