MLB Hit or Miss May 9th, 2019

10 out of 10 doctors agree my bets are good for your health.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ St. Louis Cardinals

Starting Pitching: Joe Musgrove vs Michael Wacha

O/U: 8.5

Game one of this four game series begins tonight at Busch Stadium and I don’t think this one will be close. The Pirates have one of the worst offenses in all of baseball and simply don’t have the weapons to keep up with St. Louis. The Cardinals own the 6th best team batting average in the league at .258 while the Pirates have a very lackluster .234 (23rd) average. They each respectively rank the same in OBP, as the Cardinals have a very impressive .338 (6th) and Pittsburgh owns a .299 (23rd). Last time out, Pirates pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed 7 runs against the Athletics, who don’t have nearly as good a lineup as the Cardinals. I am taking the Cardinals all the way tonight.

MY PICKS

O/U: Over 8.5

Winners: Cardinals

Texas Rangers @ Houston Astros

Starting Pitching: Mike Minor vs Wade Miley

O/U: 9.0

The Astros have been one of the best overall teams in the MLB this entire season and are looking for another win tonight. I believe they are going to beat the Rangers at home, so much so that I am even taking the -1.5 spread. Houston is the best batting team in baseball, ranking 1st in AVG, 2nd in OBP, 1st in OPS, and 2nd in home runs. This was my team to win it all at the beginning of the season and they are continuing to prove me right. Houston starter Wade Miley hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in any start this year, and with the Astros averaging over 5 runs per game, I like them to win tonight again by multiple runs.

MY PICKS

O/U: Under 9.0

Winners: Astros

Washington Nationals @ Los Angeles Dodgers

Starting Pitching: Patrick Corbin vs Rich Hill

O/U: 7.0

The Nationals have been one of the most surprising teams so far this season. I thought even with the departure of Bryce Harper they were going to be a force to reckon with in the NL East, but they are crumbling. They are 8 games under .500 and are in the bottom half of all major pitching categories: 24th in ERA (4.92), 25th in WHIP (1.41) and 23rd in opposing AVG (.257). Put that against one of the most impressive offensive teams in the Dodgers and I think the Nationals are going to be in for a long series. LA is 4th in AVG (.259), 3rd in OBP (.347) and 4th in SLG (.462). I really like for the Dodgers to win the opening game tonight and this is another game where I like the -1.5 spread.
